Mother: “A lot depends on the teacher”

09/12/2014

– It was really difficult at first. She came home in tears and complained that she was bullied but now it’s OK. She goes to school by herself, she made some friends – Svetlana, Nastia’s mother shares her story. Nastia is a girl with disability who studies in a common class with other kids.

Nastia has a mild case of CSIP and she can study with her peers and parents decided to give her such an opportunity.

But nevertheless she had some difficulties, especially in primary school. When you see her she seems to be a normal kid who is a bit limping. But it wasn’t the main reason of bullying. She had a laminar denture and her classmates made jokes like “Iron lady” or other jokes about her teeth. It could hurt any person. She complained to her parents. Svetlana decided not to wait and went to talk to the teacher.

- Now I understand that a lot depends on the teacher in such cases. After her conversation with kids they stopped to make offensive jokes. At the same time Svetlana persuaded her daughter that she should try to stand for herself and try not to be offended if someone starts to bully her. “A smart person will never try to offend another person. If someone stars to say bad words to when he sees you for the first time – just don’t pay any attention to such a person. And Nastia understood her mother’s lessons. She says: “Sometimes other kids are trying to hurt me but I just don’t pay attention to them because I am smarter.” Now she goes to school by herself and studies not worse than her peers. Some kids who laughed at her have become her good friends.

- We also communicate with other parents. It seems to me that it is important to talk with other parents and the teacher in case of any conflict and then you are able to solve any issues.
