Contest of essays “Accessibility and Disability”. Results

12/03/2013

The Office for the rights of persons with disabilities summed up the results of the contest of essay on topic “Accessibility and Disability”. This year the members of the jury were unanimous – the winner is Irina Dergach with the essay “Students, who were not waited for”. The essay is about accessibility of education for children with disability, in particular, for children with autism. This problem is important for me, because my elder child is an autist. And I learned at first hand how schools don’t want to accept such kids, do not want to see them. Almost all children with autism have normal IQ level. They have hands, legs head – everything is normal. Yes, sometimes they can behave not very usual from the point of view of the society. But many of them are very good at studying. And we have no right to deprive them of the possibility to study at common school”, - told Irina to the organizers and the participant of the contest during the award ceremony.

The director of the Office for the rights of persons with disabilities Enira Bronitskaya thanked the participants of the contest for their essays and said: “Our contest was held in the frames of information campaign “Accessibility” for the second time. And it has become a tradition. We want to widen the understanding of Accessibility in the sphere of disability, to raise the problems of protection of the rights of persons with disabilities, Convention on the rights of persons with disabilities. We also want to find new experts in the sphere of rights of persons with disabilities in Belarus. This year the majority of essays were on three topics: antidiscrimination, accessibility of education and justice. These are very important topics and we like such a tendency”.
