Office for the rights of persons with disabilities invites to the meeting “Business possibilities for persons with disabilities in Grodno”. The event will take place on February 29 in Grodno. Pyshki woodland park, Kronon Park Hotel. Beginning at 12.00, registration beginning at 11.30.

The results of the project “Small business – big opportunities” will be summarized, the participants of the project will present their ideas. The guests will hear the speeches of experts in the sphere of business, representatives of state bodies and NGOs working with persons with disabilities.

Provision of accessibility and elimination of all kinds of barriers for persons with disabilities. How are these problems solved in Belarus? What foreign experience can we use? The discussion of these and other questions was held on February 28 at press-conference held by the Office for the rights of persons with disabilities. The event was held in the frames of informational campaign Accessibility.

Office for the rights of persons with disabilities is presenting at the web-site www.disright.org a new project “Photo of the week”. The project is being realized in the frames of the informational campaign “Accessibility”. The main goal of the project is to visualize with the help of a photo the most important and significant aspects of the topics “Accessibility, the rights of persons with disabilities, UN Convention on the rights of persons with disabilities.

In the period from January 31 till February 21, 2012 the Office for the rights of persons with disabilities is holding regional stage of informational campaign “Accessibility”. Informational days will be held in oblast centers of the country according to the following schedule:

31.01 – Grodno (Address: Budenogo str. 48a office 62)

01.02. – Brest (Address: café “Feia” Pushkinskaya str 16/1)

08.02 – Vitebsk (the address will be given later)

15.02 – Mogilev (the address will be given later)

16.02 – Gomel (the address will be given later)

The Office for the rights of persons with disabilities in the frames of informational campaign “Accessibility” holds round table “To independent living through Accessibility”.

The main speaker of the event is the expert of “European network on independent living” Jamie Bolling.

The event will take place on February 26. Minsk, Voronianskogo str. 50, building 4.

Beginning at 11.00. Registration starts at 10.30

All NGOs interested in solving the problems of independent living and working in this sphere are welcome.

Regional stage of the informational campaign “Accessibility” held by the Office for the rights of persons with disabilities has started. First informational days were held in Grodno and Brest.

There are about 20000 wheelchair-bound disabled in the Republic of Belarus.

They all are potential work force (engineers, salespersons, accountants etc.). But, due to different reasons, mainly because of the USSR’s heritage, practically all of them do not have a job, they complain about their lives and do no imagine how they can have a good life in such difficult conditions. Because sometimes they have to learn again how to move, take care of their health, eat and get dressed…

Every year 400 persons become wheelchair-bound disabled.

On January 26, 2012 theoretical and practical conference “Barrier-free environment as the factor of stable development of the society” was held in the Academy of management under the aegis of the President of the Republic of Belarus. The program of the conference consisted of seminars, each of which was dedicated to some important social problem in the sphere of disability. The speakers raised the problems existing at each stage of life of a person with disability.

The ceremony of awarding the laureates and winners of the competition of essays and studies on topic “Accessibility and disability. Convention on the rights of persons with disabilities” held by the Office for the rights of persons with disabilities took place on January 30. Anastasia’s Ianuchek’s work took the first place. Anastasia is a fifth year student of law faculty of Belarusian State Economic University. Her work is dedicated to the UN Convention on the rights of persons with disabilities.

Evgeniy Shevko and Yulia Katorzhinskaya took the second and third places.
